Trust the Process: Embracing the Seasons of Life

There is a season, turn, turn, turn…

And a time for every purpose under heaven.

Every year around this time, I find myself thinking about those words from Ecclesiastes. Maybe it's because September is a month of transition. Summer isn't quite over, but fall is beginning to whisper that it's on its way.

The days are still warm, but slowly the temperatures begin to cool. The daylight grows shorter. And before long, the lush green leaves on the trees will begin to transform into beautiful shades of yellow, orange, red, and brown.

It's all part of God's design.

And lately, I've been thinking about how much the changing seasons remind me of life—and even of crafting.

If you've ever watched a tumbler-making tutorial, you've probably heard a maker say, "Trust the process."

Sometimes, when I'm watching the video, I'm thinking, There is absolutely no way that is going to turn out!

The cup may look messy. The colors don't seem to be working. There are layers upon layers being added, and somewhere along the way I start wondering if the maker has completely lost their mind.

But then they keep going.

They trust the process.

And somehow, when the final layer is added and everything comes together, that messy tumbler becomes something beautiful.

Life can be like that too.

Sometimes life gets messy. We think we've finally gotten a grip on things, and then something changes. A new challenge comes along. Plans don't work out the way we expected. A door closes. Another one opens. And suddenly, we're standing in a completely different season than the one we thought we were in.

Just when we think we've figured things out, God reminds us that He is still working.

And sometimes, we simply have to trust the process.

That isn't always easy.

I don't always understand what God is doing. I don't always understand why things happen when they do. And, if I'm being completely honest, sometimes I'd really like God to give me the finished picture before I have to walk through the messy middle.

But that's not usually how faith works.

Faith means trusting God even when we can't see the finished product.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:

«"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."»

God has never promised that every season will be easy. But He has promised to be with us through every season.

He is faithful.

He is merciful.

He provides for our needs.

And He doesn't abandon us when life gets messy.

The same is true in my crafting journey.

Just when I think I've finally figured out the latest design, technique, or trend, I see something new. A new idea. A new technique. A new product. A new style that makes me think, Well, I guess I'm learning something new again!

And maybe that's okay.

Maybe we're not supposed to have everything figured out.

Maybe we're supposed to keep learning, keep growing, keep creating, and keep trusting the One who knows the whole picture.

September reminds us that change is inevitable.

Summer gives way to fall. Green leaves give way to brilliant colors. Longer days give way to shorter ones. And eventually, fall will give way to winter.

But none of those changes surprise God.

He designed the seasons.

And He designed us for seasons too.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says:

«"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven."»

So as September begins, I'm reminding myself to embrace the season I'm in.

I don't know what tomorrow holds.

I don't know what the next season will bring.

I don't know what God is working on behind the scenes.

But I do know this:

God is in control.

And He has always been faithful.

So I'll keep creating. I'll keep learning. I'll keep growing. I'll keep trusting.

And when life looks a little messy, I'll try to remember what I've learned while making tumblers:

Trust the process.

Because sometimes what looks like a mess in the middle is simply something beautiful that isn't finished yet.

And if God is still working, then I can trust that He isn't finished with me either.

Trusting God to Guide Every Step

Welcome, August!

Summer is still in full swing. The days are warm, the sun is shining, and there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything this beautiful season has to offer. Yet, if we pay attention, we can see the signs that a new season is approaching. The days are gradually growing shorter, children and teachers are preparing to head back to school, and before long, autumn will be knocking at our door.

As for me...I get a couple of weeks off from my paralegal classes before they resume later this month. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to the break.

Sometimes it feels like there simply aren't enough hours in the day—or enough days in the week. Between work, school, creating handcrafted gifts, preparing for vendor events, filling custom orders, and trying to keep up with everyday life, my to-do list seems to grow faster than I can cross things off.

That's when I know it's time to slow down, enjoy the season, and simply take a deep breath.

In those moments, I close my eyes, breathe deeply, and ask God to take over. I remind myself that I don't have to have every answer or control every outcome. I simply need to trust the One who does.

I'm reminded of the beautiful poem Footprints in the Sand. I love the image of footprints stretching along the water's edge. The poem reminds us that when we think we are walking alone, those single set of footprints are often the moments when God is carrying us. Sometimes He carries us through difficult seasons. Other times, He places just the right people in our lives to help us along the way. Either way, His plan is always better than my own.

This weekend, God gave me another reminder to trust Him.

On Friday, I found myself checking the weather forecast over and over again. The forecast called for rain and thunderstorms on Saturday with what seemed like absolute certainty. I had already signed up and paid to be a vendor at Summer Fest, and I was really looking forward to the event. I knew it would be well attended—if only the weather would cooperate.

Saturday morning, I woke up and immediately checked my messages. No cancellations.

I got ready, looked at the weather radar one more time, and headed to the event. I was still nervous. As I set up my booth, I added a couple of sidewalls to my canopy just in case the rain decided to move in.

Then the event opened.

People came. They shopped. We visited. I shared my handcrafted creations, handed out business cards, and met so many wonderful people throughout the day.

And the rain?

We made it through the entire event with only a few sprinkles.

As I drove home, I couldn't help but smile. I had spent so much time worrying about what might happen that I almost missed the excitement of what God had already planned. He knew the weather. He knew who would stop by my booth. He knew every conversation I would have and every sale I would make.

God is so good.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be organizing my craft room, working on custom orders, creating inventory for upcoming vendor events, and enjoying a brief break before classes begin again. There is still plenty to do, but I'm choosing to take it one day at a time, trusting God to guide each step.

As I prepare for another busy season, these words from Scripture will stay close to my heart:

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Whatever August holds for you, I pray you'll find moments to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember that you don't have to carry every burden alone. Whether God is walking beside you, carrying you through a difficult season, or sending someone to lend a helping hand, He is faithful.

So, welcome, August. I'm ready to embrace this new month with gratitude, faith, and the confidence that God is guiding every step of the way.
